It is important to note that while Florida Smart ID by Thales is an official credential offered by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, it does not replace your physical driver license. According to Florida law, you must carry your physical driver license when operating a motor vehicle.

To activate Florida Smart ID, you can either enroll within the app or through your MyDMV Portal account. In-app enrollment requires taking a photo of your driver license or ID card and a selfie to verify your identity using facial recognition technology. Alternatively, you can use your MyDMV Portal account to enroll and activate by receiving an email with an activation code. Lastly, create a six-digit PIN for additional security using the randomized keypad.
